TABLE FENCE
If your table fence has separate infeed and outfeed fences, you can shim the outfeed fence to bring it forward for applications such as edge-planing and moulding. Shims can be made of thin card, plastic, veneer or plastic laminate.
The laminate has two slots routed in it to slide over the fixing bolts. It happens to be 1/32in (0.8mm) thick. Several shims can be inserted depending on how heavy you want the cut.
The shim is in place, a straight-edge is held across the outfeed fence and the table fence is adjusted so that the straight-edge just contacts the edge of the cutter blade when it’s in the furthest forward position. The amount of wood planed off the edge of the board will be equal to the thickness of the shim.
