DUST EXTRACTION
With the dust extractor fitted to your router for hand routing, extraction will be much better if the extractor follows the cut rather than leading it or being sideways on. With the extractor following the cut you get the ‘dustpan and brush’ effect. It isn’t always possible to achieve, and depends a lot on the make and model of your router.
You can use a suitable diameter aerosol cap to make a dust extractor take-off for router tables such as the Trend Craftsman and the little Makita, where the moulding in the fence is the American 2.5 inch standard. Wrap masking tape around the cap, if necessary, to make it a tight fit and cut a ‘doughnut ring’ of 18mm MDF to screw inside the cap to give it rigidity.
