SAFETY STANDARD EN 847-1/2 for Spindle Moulder Tooling

In 1997 a Europe-wide standard EN 847 was adopted the following characteristics: chip thickness
by all EU countries, replacing all the individual limitation of maximum 1.1mm knife projection for
countries' safety standards and detailing technical non-circular tools and 3mm for circular tools; limited
safety requirements of machine tools for wood tooth gullet space and mainly circular form. Tools
processing, including limited cutter projection conforming to this standard are marked MAN or
tooling (suitable for hand feed). carry the hand feed logo.
All the tooling in this catalogue is manufactured in
accordance with EN 847 and is marked either MAN or
MEC, along with other information on speeds etc.

MAN - Hand Feed Regulations
Mechanical feed is the feeding of the material
Hand feed is regarded as the holding and guiding of work-piece by mechanical means, with the exception
work pieces by hand. The term also applies to the use of machines where the power feed unit can be
of demountable power feed units or a removed. Tools conform to general safety standards,
hand-operated carriage on which the work-piece is but are not subject to standards concerning knife
placed manually or clamped. Hand feed tools have projection or tooth gullet width.
